2006-2007 Service Activities
The Blacksburg Host Lions Club supports many worthy charities during a typical year. During fiscal 2006-2007, the Club participated in the following service activities:
- Purchased eyeglasses for 32 needy people.
- Provided eye exams for 14 people.
- Supported Leader Dogs for the Blind, in Rochester, Michigan.
- Supported the Old Dominion Eye Foundation, Richmond, Virginia.
- Collected 792 pairs of used eyeglasses for the Roanoke Lions Eye-Glass Recycling Center.
- Contributed more than 363 man-hours (including travel time) in support of the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Roanoke.
- Provided academic and athletic awards to Blacksburg High School students. .
- Provided a reader for the Voice of the Blue Ridge for visually challenged listeners.
- Supported a Drug-Awareness program through the Blacksburg Police Department.
- Supported Montgomery County 4-H Leadership programs.
- Sponsored the Lions Peace Poster Contest for 6th- and 7th-grade Blacksburg Middle School students.
- Maintained eyeglass collection boxes at the following locations:
