About NAWIC: The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was founded in Ft. Worth, Texas, in 1955. Since its founding, NAWIC has grown to a membership of 5,900 with more than 187 chapters in 48 U.S. States and in three Canadian provinces. In 1996, NAWIC signed an International Affiliation Agreement with NAWIC-Australia. NAWIC's affiliate "Down Under" already has 11 chapters throughout its borders. In 1998, NAWIC signed an International Affiliation Agreement with New Zealand, and another in 1999 with South African Women in Construction (SAWiC). In September 2003, NAWIC signed an international affiliation agreement with the United Kingdom. In its 48 years of service to its membership, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades.
The NAWIC Image: With your membership in NAWIC, you will receive a copy of the Association's bi-monthly magazine, The NAWIC IMAGE. For more than 30 years, The NAWIC IMAGE has served as the national publication for the Association. It has showcased the efforts, causes and issues of its members and the industry. Departments featured include Money Matters, Bookshelf, Laws and Legals and Chapter Highlights.
Regional Conferences/Annual Convention: Each spring the 14 regions of NAWIC hold Forums where members attend seminars and network with other members from their geographic areas. On a larger scale, each fall NAWIC offers one of the best buys in construction through its national convention. Members attend educational seminars, meet inspirational speakers and develop skills through workshops and Council meetings that recharge careers. Conventions are set against the backdrop of exciting locations such as Atlanta, Anaheim, Reno, Anchorage, and Nashville. Become a NAWIC member today and join us at our regional and national conferences to network with other women in construction and learn more about the industry.
Promoting Education: NAWIC's commitment to education and skilled training can be seen in a variety of areas. For more than 20 years, the NAWIC Education Foundation has offered creative and educational programs for students from the grade school to high school level. The Foundation sponsors award-winning educational programs including Block-Kids and the CAD/Design/Drafting Scholarship Awards. Crystal Vision Awards Program: Each year, NAWIC recognizes individuals who have advanced and promoted the role of women in construction through initiatives and/or policies. The Crystal Vision and Crystal Achievement Awards are designed to honor such individuals. To find out about the 2002 award winners visit the Marketing Corner / Press Room page.
