CRAIG CREEK 50K BIG FUN RUN

A nice run on a trail less traveled

view

Welcome to the web site for the last run of the year on December 31, 2005. We will begin running on the AT heading north, run all most to the Dragons Tooth parking lot, turn around and run back to the parking area at Caldwell Fields. (See enry form for directions.) Please arrive at Caldwell Fields by 7 am and the run will begin at 8 am. Runners will be shuttled 5.4 miles to the start. See the entry form for directions.

There will be three aid stations. One of these three will provide aid in both directions. The other two will be at the turn around and at the intersection of the AT and Craig Creek Road. Anyone wanting to volunteer please contact Michael Holland at michael.holland@navy.mil or call 540-818-9450. We plan to go out to eat at a restaurant in Blacksburg on Friday at about 6:30 pm. Come on out and run on the AT in these mountains with no leaves on the trees. If you want to read some more about the AT in this area check out: http://www.schundler.net/brianshike9.htm or http://www3.roanoke.com/outdoors/hiking/621.html

Of course, the infamous Catawba Run Around also includes Dragons Tooth.

UPDATE (December 17)

We presently have 18 runners for the Craig Creek 50K Big Fun run. Anyone may sign up until we have 40 entries. The cost is $15 sans shirt and $35 with a shirt. There is probably some interest in running less than 31 miles and this would be fine. Please let us know on your entry form and again on the 31st. We do want to keep track of the runners so please let the race director or an "official volunteer at an aid station" know that you are off the course. In other words tell us when you have finished running so we won't wonder where you are. It would be about 15 miles from the start to the first aid station turn around and run back to Craig Creek road. One could probably get a ride from here back to Caldwell Fields (another 5.4 miles). Another option would be to turn around before the first aid station and then run back to Caldwell Fields.

We still need volunteers for the three aid stations. If you can spare a couple of hours on December 31 to work at an aid station please contact the race director.
